Congratulations to Sam Ciardiello, our April 2024 Employee of the Month! Sam is an animal care technician on our isolation and nursery team. She is known for expertly helping fosters troubleshoot sickness and other issues with their temporary guests. Sam's special talent is her role as kitten whisperer since not even feral kittens can be grumpy when she's around.Thank you, Sam, for all that you do for the VBSPCA!

This week the VBSPCA clinic team performed its first procedure in our new surgery and dental suites! The first patient was Bently, a senior kennel resident. We're happy to report that Bently recovered well and was adopted yesterday along with his lifelong pal, Dakota!We are now moving into phase two of our clinic renovation. This project is only possible through a grant from PetSmart Charities, and we are grateful for the opportunity to help more shelter animals and public pets once the renovation is complete!

Today we're highlighting the recipient of the 2024 VBSPCA Compassion Award, TowneBank.For over 25 years, TowneBank has given over $100 million to local charitable organizations, including the VBSPCA. Since 2021, TowneBank has partnered with us to support our Humane Education Program, and many of their employees, like TowneBank Vice President and VBSPCA Board Member Leila Bradley (pictured), volunteer their time to the organization.TowneBank will receive the Compassion Award at the Wags & Whiskers Gala on Saturday, April 27. We're excited to announce Barbara Taylor Creech and Mary Donnan Harrison as the recipients of the 2024 VBSPCA Lifesaver Award! Friends for more than 50 years, Creech and Harrison share a deep love for animals and the Virginia Beach SPCA and have played vital roles in the continuing growth of the organization.Combined, these friends planned the first 15 Celebrity and Pet Fashion Shows and elevated the event to a can't-miss night of fun and animals. The Fashion Shows paved the way for our annual Wags & Whiskers Gala.
