Hot Italian Cheese Balls Recipe {+ Bonus Breakfast Frittata} (1)

I am already planning our travels and meals for when friends and family will be staying with us. Make Hot Italian Cheese Balls for dinner and a breakfast frittata the following morning.

One ingredient to go between two recipes! The spices and cheese combine perfectly to add some kick as the cheese oozes out of the warm dough. One of the things I love about this recipe is that it can be used as an appetizer or a meal on its own when paired with a salad.

Wrap the ends around to create a ball.

Dip the ball into olive oil and then roll the top into the Italian seasoning.

FAQs

What is Italian frittata? ›

A frittata is just an Italian omelet, except you don't have to worry about folding it over perfectly. While they can feed quite a few people, omelettes are often just 1 serving size. In addition, the ingredients are mixed in with the eggs, while omelette ingredients are folded right into the center.

How long can frittata stay in the fridge? ›

When you refrigerate cooked eggs, they'll stay good to eat for three to four days, so you can easily make a frittata (or two) during Sunday meal prep, slice and pack it up, and enjoy it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner almost all week long. In fact, frittatas are so foolproof, you don't even need a recipe to make one.

What's the difference between a frittata and scrambled eggs? ›

Frittata is an egg-based Italian dish similar to an omelette or crustless quiche or scrambled eggs, enriched with additional ingredients such as meats, cheeses, or vegetables. The word frittata is Italian and roughly translates to 'fried'.

What's the difference between a quiche and a frittata? ›

Origin: Frittata is an Italian dish whereas quiche is a French dish. Crust: A quiche has crust while a frittata does not. Sometimes, quiche is baked without crust. Base Ingredients: While both frittatas and quiches are made with eggs, quiche is made with an egg custard, which also includes cream or milk.

Can I eat week old frittata? ›

Here's a good rule of thumb: leftovers from a cooked meal, like meatloaf or frittata, can be kept in your fridge for up to 4 days. The same goes for freshly-prepped ingredients. If you plan to use either at a later date, freeze in freezer-safe containers or bags and thaw when you are ready to use.

How to tell when a frittata is done? ›

The eggs should be cooked through, not runny and a knife should come out clean when inserted into the centre. You can also give the skillet a gentle shake to determine if it is done; a runny frittata will jiggle when you shake the skillet.

What kind of pan is best for frittata? ›

Use a cast-iron skillet.

The best choice for making frittatas, cast iron skillets can safely go from stovetop to oven, and they conduct heat well and evenly. Seasoning a cast-iron pan gives it a non-stick quality, so a well-seasoned skillet will result in the easiest slicing & serving.

What is frittata made of? ›

Frittatas are an Italian dish consisting of cooked eggs with other ingredients added in like meat, vegetables, or cheese. Unlike omelets and scrambled eggs, frittatas are not moved or folded over as they're cooked. The frittata is cooked whole, without disturbing, in one large piece.

What is the purpose of a frittata? ›

Frittatas make great use of leftovers, cook up in 15 minutes and are mealtime-agnostic: they don't feel out of place at breakfast, lunch, dinner, or any snack time in between. Plus, if you have leftovers, frittatas reheat quite well, making them a double leftover combo.

What does a frittata taste like? ›

It tastes just as good as it looks, with a fluffy texture, and rich, creamy flavor. As a bonus, since it doesn't have a flour crust, it's suitable for even gluten-free eaters. Sadly, frittatas are not always well made.

How do you eat frittata? ›

Frittata Serving Suggestions

To dress up individual slices, top them with additional fresh herbs or serve with sliced avocado, dollops of lemony yogurt, or scoops of pesto, pico de gallo or tomatillo salsa. For a weeknight dinner, I like to serve my frittata with a kale salad and some good bread.
