Giant £2,500 Nutcracker Stolen! Christmas Heist Caught on CCTV | Pecarski's Christmas House (2025)

A heart-wrenching tale unfolds as a Christmas-obsessed couple, Doug and Liz Pecarski, find themselves victims of a peculiar theft. Their beloved 10-foot-tall nutcracker, a £2,500 festive icon, was brazenly stolen from their home in Spaldwick, leaving them bewildered and disappointed.

Security footage, as reported by the BBC, captures the moment a car pulls up, and two individuals climb over a wall, unhooking the towering nutcracker and dragging it towards the vehicle. The couple, who have proudly displayed these festive figures for three years, only realized their loss the following morning.

Doug, 51, expressed his confusion, stating, "It makes no sense to steal it. Perhaps someone wanted to be on the naughty list for a change!"

The nutcracker, weighing a hefty 12.5 stone, was secured to the wall after last year's storms, but the thieves managed to remove it and cram it into their car, with part of it sticking out. Doug mentioned that the alleged thieves even attempted to steal the second nutcracker but were unsuccessful.

The Pecarskis' home is known as the "Christmas House" in their community, attracting visitors each year and raising funds for the Woodgreen Pets Charity in Godmanchester, where Liz volunteers. Liz attributes her love for Christmas to watching Home Alone as a child, and she believes the community shares her enthusiasm.

However, the theft has cast a shadow over the festivities. Doug shared, "It's disheartening and saddening. You lose a bit of faith in humanity."

But the community has shown its support. Shortly after the incident, local children left two miniature nutcrackers on the Pecarskis' doorstep, along with a heartfelt apology for the loss. Liz said, "We've got a lonely nutcracker now. He wants his mate back."

The theft has been reported to Cambridgeshire Police, and the Pecarskis hope their beloved nutcracker will be returned soon.

This story raises questions about the motives behind such a peculiar theft and the impact it has on the community's Christmas spirit. What do you think could have driven these thieves to commit such an act? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below!
